GO Wales: Achieve through Work Experience is the name given to this Programme which is part-financed by the European Social Fund (ESF) through the Welsh Government and operates pan-Wales. It is designed to support the employability of young students on higher education courses in Wales and is aimed at young students who have faced barriers in accessing higher education or work experience and are most at risk of not securing employment, education or training when leaving their higher education course. It is funded from 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2019.
The Programme is a partnership of the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) and the universities in Wales (Aberystwyth University, Bangor University, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Cardiff University, Swansea University, The Open University in Wales, The University of South Wales, The University of Wales Trinity Saint David and Wrexham Glyndŵr University). The Programme is managed by HEFCW which also acts as Lead Beneficiary. The Programme is delivered by the universities in Wales which are also joint beneficiaries to the Programme. HEFCW and the universities provide match funding for the Programme and some further match funding is provided by employers who take part in the Programme, with the majority of the funding coming from the ESF.
