Rory Wilson, Director of Catalina Architecture in Aberystwyth applied for the Graduate Training and Development Fund to undertake a Postgraduate Diploma in the Conservation of the Historic Environment.
Catalina Architecture is a private design studio with specialist expertise in historic building conservation and contemporary design.
Rory applied for the training in the hope of developing his skills to secure new tenders for projects and to gain a competitive advantage for the business. He explains;
“The course has enabled the business to make appropriate introductions to new clients, whose specific requirements relate to historic building conservation. It generally takes some time for new contacts to develop into live projects, but indications are very positive so far in this respect.”
“The knowledge I have gained through the course has enable me to guide my colleagues in matters of appropriateness and techniques on historic building and context matters.”
“Once initial contact had been made with GO Wales, the process was very straightforward. My contact with GO Wales was very efficient and the team provided good guidance. I would like to thank GO Wales for providing the financial difference between my being able to do the course or not, and therefore for significantly benefitting the business which as a result looks to have a bright and expanding future.”
“As a result of my course, and specifically the resulting confidence shown by potential clients in the business, we have taken on an additional part time member of staff.”
