GO Wales supports Graduate Employer Award

Aber First Awards

Four Aberystwyth businesses have been nominated for a ‘Graduate Employer Award’ as part of the Cambrian News Aber First Awards recognising outstanding contribution in the region

Gwesty Cymru, InSynch, Menter a Busnes and Morris & Bates have all given Welsh graduates excellent opportunities to develop their careers by hosting GO Wales Work Placements; which give local businesses the chance to recruit a graduate for a short period of time and access a subsidy towards salary costs.

Many of the businesses have offered the graduates longer term positions as a result of the skills demonstrated during the placement period.

One of the nominees; InSynch Business Services based in Aberystwyth has recruited a number of graduates through GO Wales over the years, Director Eddy Webb explains;

“InSynch has embraced the employment and development of five graduates through the GO Wales scheme over the last few years. We see taking on graduates through GO Wales as a way to give a person a chance to develop and prove themselves, as well as bring extra capacity and new skills to our business. We always look to employ graduates at the end of their placement and have done so with four out of five of them.”

Computer Science graduate Michel Coldman from Aberystwyth University secured a 10 week Work Placement as a Web Officer with InSynch in 2010; two years on and he is continuing to forge a successful career with  the company, Michel said;

“It has been a pleasure working at InSynch and since graduation I have learned so much more in my chosen field. The GO Wales scheme gave me a unique opportunity to work for a company that allows for graduates’ unique skills to flourish.”

The awards will take place on 21st June from 4-6pm at Medrus, Penbryn, Aberystwyth University. In addition to the Graduate Employer Award there will be a number of award categories including ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ and ‘Most Innovative Marketing Campaign’.
