Organisation: Shine Creative Arts ltd
Shine creative arts is a local Cardiff business that provides drama, dance and music classes to children of all ages and abilities throughout Cardiff and the surrounding areas. In August 2011 shine creative arts ran its first week long Theatre School.
The Shine Summer Theatre School 2011 took place in Whitchurch, Cardiff and provided workshops in acting, filming and Broadway Dance, culminating in an end of week performance at Wales' Millennium Centre.
Hannah Williams founder of the company gave three undergraduates work experience through the GO Wales Work Taster scheme, she explains;
“The GO Wales work experience students contributed to the Shine Summer Theatre School, assisting the Tutors in classes and providing administration and practical support to both the students and myself, as owner of shine creative arts. The girls were bubbly, enthusiastic and worked fantastically with both young children and other tutors. I was able to rely on the work experience students to fulfill necessary tasks such as running a tuck shop, greeting students, participating in drama games and sessions.”
“The experience was a great benefit to Shine Creative Arts. I would be keen to work with GO Wales again, as the experience was so easy and very positive. It has certainly made be consider taking on students and graduates in the future and there is the potential that I would employ the GO Wales work experience students for paid work in different roles.”
Emily Green an English Literature undergraduate from Cardiff University was one of the students that took part in a week long Work Taster with Shine Creative Arts, she said;
“From the beginning the Work Taster was extremely well organised; the GO Wales team set up a meeting with Hannah, the owner of Shine Creative Arts, for us to sit in on a drama class to get a feel for what we'd be doing during our week’s work experience.
“We were made to feel welcome by both the tutors and the children, which made it easy to get involved in classes. Hannah organised the day well so that we knew what class we'd be sitting in on in advance, allowing us to get on with gaining the experience of working with children of various ages.”
“I really enjoyed working with Hannah and the other tutors and of course the Shine students! I definitely feel that the experience has benefited me as it has given me an insight into working with children in a less formal environment than school, and confirmed that I want to go into teaching. Aside from this, the Work Taster was great fun and I enjoyed working with all involved.”
