After recruiting a graduate through GO Wales on a 10 week placement Neath Port Talbot Homes has granted a six month extension to a Port Talbot youngster who previously studied at Swansea University.
The GO Wales scheme gives businesses in Wales the opportunity to recruit degree students and graduates for short subsidised work placements.
After completing a 10 week placement as a Communications Assistant, NPT Homes has now offered Port Talbot based Jonathon Pinch an extended six month contract.
His responsibilities have included developing the December edition of ‘The Grapevine’ newsletter, working with tenant groups, writing press releases and communicating with staff through fortnightly e-bulletins.
Communications Assistant Jonathon Pinch said:
“After I graduated finding a job was really challenging with scarce employment opportunities. Where jobs did exist employers were looking for people with work based experience.
Throughout the placement I took on a variety of tasks which provided me with transferable skills and experience that I can now use to develop my future career.
With help and guidance from NPT Homes I was able to get the most out of the experience and I am now looking forward to developing my skills even further over the next six months.
I would definitely encourage others to apply for placements through GO Wales as it really does help give graduates and students much needed experience to help develop their career."
Head of Corporate Services Cathryn Evans said:
“We were looking to enhance the Communications team and GO Wales provided some excellent candidates to choose from. Jon worked hard during his 10 week placement at NPT Homes and I am delighted that we were able to reward his efforts with an extended placement opportunity.
His degree has given him great knowledge of how the world of communications works and he has been able to put this into practice at NPT Homes.
We look forward to developing our communication to tenants and staff over the coming months with Jon’s help.”
One of NPT Homes’ promises is to provide more local jobs over the coming years.
As part of the investment programme which began in October, NPT Homes and their contractors are set to employ many more local people in order to improve the housing and communities throughout the Neath and Port Talbot Borough.
