Description :

We have a great placement for a graduate interested in gaining 10 weeks’ experience of working within a manufacturing industry as a website/software developer. The successful candidate will update software as well as updating the company’s website and the placement could lead to future employment with the company.

 

Who is the placement with?

Quality Pipe Supports (QPS) Ltd. are specialists in the design and manufacture of pipe support systems and fabricated steelwork, offering a wide range of products and services and emphasising total quality as a priority in the Company policy. They handle small or large contracts using experienced engineers to give full support in relation to design and providing practical advice. What will you be doing?

The successful applicant will be responsible for updating current software and, depending on time constraints, develop new software. You will also be required to update the company’s current website and create a new section for a new venture within the nuclear sector. You will also provide general IT support within the company when needed.

Information for International Students

GO Wales is an EU-funded scheme and so students from EU countries only can take part. Graduates from any country can take part, but graduates from outside the EU must have the appropriate working visa (not a student visa). Although student visas do allow non-EU students to work full time over the summer, our funding restrictions do not allow this. Essential Requirements :

-      A degree in Computer Science or equivalent degree or experience

-      Past experience of working in an IT environment

-      Analytical and problem-solving abilities with experience of web servers

-      Ability to think logically

-      Ability to manage time efficiently and work under pressure

-      Knowledge or interest in the engineering industry would be beneficial

 

Expected Outcomes :

By the end of the placement you will have updated and created a new section of the website according to the company’s specifications. You will have developed your knowledge of current software and future software developments with a view to possible future employment with the company.

 

Included within your work placement is a short work-based Award accredited by City & Guilds. The Professional Development Award helps you focus on developing the skills employers want in the workplace. Everyone on a GO Wales work placement completes the Award.

GO Wales work placements are 6-10 weeks of paid employment in an organisation in Wales. They often lead to longer-term work and are a great addition to your CV.
