GO Wales

What you need to know

We are interested in helping private sector organisations with the cost of training and development of graduate level staff which leads to the achievement of qualifications, especially higher level qualifications such as degrees or diplomas.

The funding is intended to enable organisations access training which they would otherwise be unable to afford. We fund 50% of course costs up to £1500 per participant – the organisation pays the rest. If you think your organisation may be interested in supporting your development through our scheme please tell them about it. There is information about the scheme on the employer pages of our website www.gowales.co.uk/training.

Who and What Can We Fund

  • Training and development leading to a recognised qualification
  • Qualifications costing over £300 including VAT
  • Third sector organisations are eligible to apply if they are also SMEs and receive at least 50% of their income from private sources
  • Most training will need to fit into one of the following categories – business and management (training relating to project management, marketing, finance, human resources, procurement and other generic functions associated with running and managing a business); IT and computing; environmental; equality and diversity; science, technology and engineering; languages
  • If the training leads to a qualification at NQF Level 4 or above, such as a degree or post graduate diploma we have some flexibility to step outside the categories listed above
  • There is no list of courses to choose from – the organisation identifies the training required and when and where it takes place
  • For our purposes, graduate level staff are those holding a minimum of a HNC or Certificate of Higher Education (120 credit points at NQF Level 4)
  • We are not concerned with when the individual to be trained graduated
  • Sole trader or self employed graduates can apply
