Rebecca Kate Hawkins

Marketing - Cardiff

Organisation: Boulders Ltd

A GO Wales work placement helped Rebecca Hawkins gain valuable hands on experience in marketing; she participated in a 12 week placement with Boulders climbing centre in Cardiff where she was to play an important part in taking the company forward.

Project Objective

Rebecca’s brief was to research and develop a marketing strategy to develop the Boulders brand and increase the usage of the centre.

Project Outcome

Rebecca had the opportunity to use a range of marketing initiatives which gave her the chance to use the theory learnt from University in a practical environment, this was Rebecca’s first job after graduation:

“I had to create awareness of Boulders and implemented corporate marketing strategies to get businesses interested in using Boulders for their personal and team development training through our challenging team-building exercises.”

“I was given the chance to use a wide range of marketing media including cold-calling and leaflet drops. I also developed direct marketing campaigns, PR, copywriting marketing packs for businesses and worked closely with designers to help make data sheets to put on corporate showcase events.”

“As a result I got a chance to practice what I learnt at University and I feel that I have made a difference with measurable results. After my placement I was offered a full time position with Boulders.”

Robert Lawrence Marketing and Brand Manager at Boulders was extremely pleased with the outcome of the placement:

“During her project Rebecca increased revenue for Boulders through the development of a marketing strategy. As a young business hoping to grow committing to a full time member of staff is a big step, GO Wales enabled us to test the water of graduate recruitment and we are now pleased that Rebecca has been offered a full time position with the company.”
