"It was a great learning experience which will put me in good stead for future jobs.”

Stacey Morrissey an Art and Design graduate from Glamorgan University recently took part in a graphic design placement to re-design hundreds of icons for a software package developed by RAP International.

RAP International is a company at the forefront of World Safety Standards providing Specialist risk assessment software and consultancy in safe control of work primarily in high hazard environments.

The company has a multinational client base and their software is available in over 20 languages so by Stacey designing a set of standardised icons; she would make it easier for clients in all countries to understand the product.

RAP International have been employing summer interns for several years through the GO Wales programme, Anne Carter Director of RAP International explains;  “We have taken on many IT students or graduates through GO Wales and have offered permanent employment to the best of them.”

“Stacey was the best of the graphic design candidates that we interviewed; she fitted into the team straightaway, listened to and understood the brief, was enthusiastic and has produced excellent work.  As our product is highly specialised and technical, this could have taken her some time to master but with the support and mentoring of the rest of the RAP team she researched and delivered the desired results.”

As a result of her project Stacey was able to develop her graphic design skills; ‘I completed 250 designed icons by the end of my placement which was more than the target that was set by my employers. It was a great learning experience which will put me in good stead for future jobs.”
