Laura Alice Richards
Organisation: Ffynone House School
Laura Richards took part in GO Wales Work Taster with Ffynone House School in Swansea. With two very different ideas about what kind of career path she wanted to follow Laura hoped the work taster would help her make a decision about her future.
“The work taster definitely helped me make a decision about my future career. I have always been undecided as to whether to go into journalism or teaching and this experience has confirmed that teaching is a career I would like to follow.”
“It enabled me to understand the different aspects of teaching and the methods that certain teachers use. It also helped with my confidence in talking to people and re-assured me that I had an ample knowledge base to become a teacher.”
“During the experience I observed a number of different lessons ranging throughout the year groups and helped students with any questions they had. On a number of occasions I was able to help a student who had recently moved to Wales from Japan so therefore did not have a clear grasp of the English language."
The organisation where I undertook the work experience was extremely helpful and professional. I instantly felt involved and appreciated whilst there. The teachers explained everything they were doing and occasionally gave me the chance to help them in their tasks. I also felt that the pupils appreciated my presence and they never once made me feel uncomfortable in the classroom.”
“I feel that GO Wales is extremely beneficial to students and graduates. Prior to this work taster I found it increasingly difficult to obtain any work experience in a school due to the high demand and security issues. However this scheme has enabled me to start my experience and hopefully be able to expand upon it.”
