Graduate gets the go ahead with GO Wales

Jane Hutt

Funded earlier this year with a £17 million Welsh Assembly Government convergence package, GO Wales gives students and graduates a head start in today's job market. The scheme has been providing a wide range of work experience opportunities, training and jobs, accompanied by a helpful range of career resources since its establishment in 2003.

Jane Hutt visited Forum Europe in Cardiff city centre to meet Laura Cooper-Young, formerly on a GO Wales placement with the company, to discuss her own GO Wales experience and how it lead to successful permanent employment as an Event Development Executive.

While on placement at Forum Europe, Laura was given the opportunity to travel to the company’s Brussels office to gain experience in events management and also attended a copywriting course which was part funded by the GO Wales Training and Development strand.

Jane Hutt said:

“It is fantastic that graduates are given the opportunity through GO Wales to gain valuable experience on placements, and in some cases secure full time employment as Laura did.

“It is essential for us to keep investing in graduates, and through schemes such as this we aim to encourage individuals to use their knowledge and skills to help them on the right career path to achieve their full potential.”

GO Wales Graduate Laura said:

“As I approached the end of my degree in journalism, film and media studies, I was unsure of the direction I wanted my career to go in, especially given the current economic climate. My GO Wales placement was varied and engaging, and has led to full time employment in a field that I may not have otherwise discovered, but now thoroughly enjoy.”
