On the Isle of Anglesey the glamorous fashion studio Frocked de la Vallière and its select team combine their skills, passion and varied talents and inspirations to create collections for the International market.
Tracey Vallière-Evans, Managing and Creative Director, started the business just over twenty months ago and has gone from strength to strength building a successful team of talented graduate staff through the GO Wales work placement programme.
The company took on Hannah Brett, a Marine Biology & Oceanography, graduate from Wales Bangor as a pattern cutter to aid in the selection of a London fashion show.
Tracey Vallière-Evans explains:
“Hannah’s degree was totally unrelated to fashion but I could see that she had excellent potential to be a pattern cutter; during the placement she managed to develop her skills and fashion studio work enormously whilst understanding the importance of what our brand was trying to achieve.”
“The placement aided our selection for a London Catwalk, and therefore raised our profile enormously enabling us to achieve media coverage (including BBC online) that would otherwise have had such a high cost, that our advertising budget would have gone into overdrive!”
“It just goes to show that graduates don’t have to have a specific degree; they have a whole host of skills that can be used to bring fresh and innovative ideas to businesses. Hannah has become a truly invaluable member of the Frocked team.”
“Even though the GO Wales placement was in a different subject area to my degree it has allowed me to jump start my career in fashion. Achieving my degree gave me the skills needed for my new role in Frocked including: good time management, working to deadlines and technical discipline.”
“I didn’t think that I was going to be a pattern cutter but I’m learning all the time and really enjoying it. I’m delighted the placement has enabled me to carry on training whilst being in employment.”
