Emily wanted to gain experience with a local primary school as the only experience she had was with secondary school environments. She wanted to gain a balanced view of teaching to help clarify whether it would be a career she wanted to pursue.
Emily thoroughly enjoyed her time at the school, the experience helped her realise that primary and secondary teaching is completely different and that she would like to gain more experience in this area.
“The first time I went to the school the staff were really welcoming, friendly, easy to talk to and open to questions. I was made to feel at home from day one. I got to experience working with a range of ages, the children I got to know better were great - one of them drew me a lovely picture of our reading group.”
“I also got to do a variety of tasks e.g. general classroom assistance, reading groups, one to one literacy tasks. I was invited to St Fagans on the school trip too - I had never been there - it was a whole different experience seeing the kids out of school - I was exhausted!”
