Daniel Mansell took part in a work taster to gain an insight into the work of the criminal barrister.
Daniel is now sure that he would like to become a barrister and is about to undertake a law conversion course. He is thankful that he has valuable work experience as he is entering such a competitive profession.
“My taster involved shadowing criminal barristers appearing at Newport Crown Court, and during the week I saw a wide array of criminal procedures; from sentencing to applications for bail, as well as a sizeable chunk of a GBH case. The experience also allowed me 'behind the scenes' access and I was privy to the barristers thrashing out plea bargains with their clients in the cells, as well as the informal discussion of cases in the robing room.”
