More on Work Placements

The Process

We organise hundreds of Work Placements each year, working with local employers to encourage them to participate in the Work Placement scheme and then advertising these placement vacancies to interested students and graduates.

You can view and apply for any of our Work Placements online. The employer chooses who to interview and who to employ for their advertised placement.

If appointed you will receive an induction from your GO Wales Adviser and then ongoing contact as required for both you and your host employer to get the most of out the Work Placement.

New! Online Application System

We have launched a new online application system which will improve the way that you apply for GO Wales Work Placements.

The new online system has been developed to help you make good quality applications by streamlining the process so that you won't have to upload and store CVs and covering letters. Instead it focuses on specific sections including; your education, work experience and skills.

You will benefit from:

  • A fairer recruitment process - all applications sent to employers will be anonymous, this means that the employer will only see your candidate number and the skills, education and training you have demonstrated in your application; making it easier for employers to make effective selection choices.
  • An improved applicant experience - the new system will make it easier for you to save your information and tailor your applications quickly and easily.

Professional Development Award

Whilst on placement you have the opportunity to gain a short but high-level, work-based qualification, the City & Guilds Professional Development Award. The qualification is FREE as GO Wales covers the entire cost.

  • The PDA is a vocational qualification to present alongside your academic qualifications which will help to set you apart from other job hunters in the competitive job market.
  • It helps you to identify your strengths and weaknesses and work on them, which will make you a stronger candidate for future job applications.
  • It assists in the development of work-based skills, such as time management, communication skills and business development skills – all vital for your future career development.
  • It helps you identify and articulate the skills you develop during your placement, making it easier for you to produce strong job applications and perform well at interview in the future.

For more information on the PDA, please contact us at pda@gowales.co.uk.

“I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to take part in the scheme – it looks great on my CV and I am staying on with my host company for a further period of time. I have learned a lot as a result of the GO Wales Professional Development qualification, and have been given greater responsibility in the company because of it. I would encourage other graduates on a Work Placement to go for it! The Award is extremely worthwhile and is of great benefit to you and your employers.”
