Gower Heritage Centre is a visitor attraction and rural life museum based around a working 12th century water-mill.

Project objective

The centre employed Oliver as a graphic designer to work in their newly established print studio on a new signage system. Oliver was given responsibility to run the department early on and it is now a separate business (Parkmill Design and Print Studios).

Project outcome

Oliver's designed Gower brochure

Oliver is now controlling a large part of the business and has accomplished all of the objectives that were set for him.

“The placement went very well and was lucky enough to be offered the job full time after my placement ended last year. Just after Christmas the department in which I ran became its own business so I was extremely lucky to be caught up in the whole venture.”

“I've generally been pleased with the outcome of all the work that I've produced. I have to say it wasn't all easy, and I made mistakes, but I recovered and learnt from them.”

“Achievements this year include being asked to design the Gower Walking Festival Brochure which was initially a daunting task for one person to take on (in the time period) but it paid off and we made some great clients and also recommendations along the way.”

“My skills are constantly developing, technical and social. I've become more confident in this last year, and I'm now more knowledgeable about design and print in general with the confidence to take on bigger projects.”

“Believe it or not I'm now qualified in health and hygiene, till trained, a certified Welcome Host, attended seminars in social media, so I've added a few things to my CV this last year.”

Mike Davies, owner of the print studio, said:

“I think the GO Wales scheme gives graduates the opportunity to bite the apple of the working world. Being a designer means having to interpret people's minds which can be one hell of a job but Oliver is great with people and has managed to do this very well.”

“Some of the work Oliver has produced has been beautiful and our clients have been overjoyed. He is now running the company and I can trust him completely to get on with the job. Without the GO Wales scheme I doubt Oliver would have been running a company at such a young age.”
