Radnorshire Wildlife Trust has 19 wildlife reserves across the county covering a range of habitats. The Trust undertakes a wide range of work including surveys of vulnerable and endangered species.
Christina Morris was required to produce surveys of protected bat species and develop expertise in recording and analysing bat calls. The aim of the project was to help the consultancy improve the quality of protected species reports for their clients.
The experience helped Christina to decide on a career direction for the future:
“The placement was an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience of nature conservation. I met a number of enthusiastic and dedicated conservation professionals; working alongside them has helped me decide on a direction for my own career.”
Chris Ledbury, Consultancy Manager was pleased with the valuable contribution that Christina made throughout her placement:
“Having Christina here for ten weeks was a huge help. Modern methods of bat identification use sophisticated equipment and computer analysis. Christina rapidly got to grips with the complexities of recording bat calls and was able to help us develop our skills in this area.”
“She also assisted with a range of other work including helping to secure 400 dormouse nest tubes in woodlands as part of a dormouse survey. The extra pair of hands was invaluable. Radnorshire Wildlife Services is the consultancy arm of the Radnorshire Wildlife Trust. We certainly hope to use GO Wales again.”
