GO Wales Work Placements

Work Placements are paid periods of quality work experience. They normally last around 10 weeks and are full time but more flexible arrangements are available. Placements are proven to improve your chances of getting the job you want after graduation.

For a few weeks or months a student or graduate works in a business or organisation, bringing new expertise and experience to the work-place.

Why work experience?

Employers want experienced employees. By employing staff with experience, they are taking less risk as the new member of staff has worked elsewhere. As they are likely to have been in full time education for many years, graduates may lack this much-valued experience. This is where we come in - we encourage and enable students and graduates to gain good quality, relevant work experience.

That's not all - it's not just about experience it's about the skills learned and improved upon during work experience. These skills are transferable which means they can be taken from job to job.

What is employability?

The Confederation of British Industry (1998) defined employability as:

“The possession by an individual of the qualities and competencies required to meet the changing needs of employers and thereby help realise his or her aspiration and potential in work”.

Basically, this means that employers want more than a graduate with a good degree. In an increasingly competitive world, employers want their graduate employees to have the skills they need to stay ahead of the competition.

GO Wales organises quality work experience opportunities for students and graduates to help them fulfil their potential and become valuable employees.
