Taster objective

Heidi Seage a Bsc Psychology student from Glamorgan University is participating in a work taster at Park Lewis Primary so far she has spent every Tuesday afternoon in school for a term to gain some experience in teaching.

Taster outcome

Heidi gives an overview of her experience:

“The work taster really helped with my decision to apply for post graduate teacher training and helped me to clarify that I want to work in upper primary. Watching how teachers manage their classrooms was interesting as it showed me different ways that subject topics can be taught. I developed a range of skills including patience and multi-tasking (talking to one child while trying to keep an eye on the rest of the class!)”

“It's worth spending an extra hour on the university campus visiting the careers centre; they not only found me a work placement but also helped me write a proper CV which I can now use when I leave University. The work tasters themselves are useful as they allow you to actually experience the realities of the workplace rather than the idealistic view of the job that you hold.”
