Candidate
Hannah Walk (English Literature)

The objective of the forum is to make Wales the first Fair Trade country and the campaign aims to raise public awareness of the issues behind the products they buy in supermarkets.

Taster objective

The work taster opportunity with Fair Trade Wales was an ideal opportunity as Hannah had an interest in the organisation and was keen to find out more about their work. She felt the flexibility of the work taster programme made this opportunity more accessible to her.

Taster outcome

Hannah spent one day a week for a few months at the office in Bangor and was able to get involved with a variety of tasks such as:

  • Research
  • Liaising with companies
  • Designing booklets posters and certificates
  • Attending meetings
  • Organising events

Hannah said:

“I thoroughly enjoyed working for them, and feel that it was great experience! I particularly enjoyed the research part of it, like looking for council or business contacts on the internet and putting the information into a document. I also enjoyed the creative side of things, like designing posters and certificates. I gained experience in telephone work, calling Fair Trade Forum group members to ask for updates on forthcoming Fair Trade events and getting actively involved - attending meetings and keeping minutes.”

“This opportunity has made me realise that I would very much like to work within the voluntary sector in future. Talking about what I have being doing on the taster has also made me realise how much I've gained from this whole experience!”
