GO Wales Work Placements

Awel Amman Tawe is a community energy project based in Swansea.

Project objective

The project was looking for somebody with good knowledge of energy conservation and sustainability to promote renewable energy principles and support available.

Project outcome

The placement has helped Craig realise that he would like to pursue a career in the environmental/charity sector. The company gained an enthusiastic and skilled individual who delivered on all objectives that were set.

“My role within Awel Aman Tawe was directly related to wind farm developments. It involved researching relevant material, maintaining a consultee contact file, and using Geographical Information Systems to produce virtual representations of the wind farm developments.”

“I felt the placement was an excellent experience. Awel Aman Tawe really encouraged me to undertake challenging tasks, such as:

  • Tackling specialist computer packages
  • Taking responsibility for project work such as the consultee contact file
  • Achieving a professional standard of presentation for the visualisations of the wind farm developments

“The placement has influenced my future career choice in a number of ways. Awel Aman Tawe demonstrated to me that even though there are a limited number of jobs in the environmental/charity sector the rewards from actually doing these jobs outweighs the competitiveness of the sector.”

“I now have valuable experience working within this field and so stand a greater chance of finding employment. I would certainly recommend a GO Wales placement to other students and graduates. The experience really improved my confidence.”
