InPractice.org is a Cardiff based software house that develops simple and secure web applications. They specialise in administrative solutions especially for departments that span multiple sites.

Project objective

InPractice were about to launch a next generation business application and wanted to get it ready for market. They were looking for a graduate to thoroughly test the product before launch.

Project Outcome

Ellis is now one of the lead developers on a new product that inPractice.org is launching for SMEs next spring called Woosabi. Without Ellis and GO Wales Woosabi might be a few months behind launching its new product!

Dan Bridge, Managing Director said:

“We're essentially a start-up business and as we grow we want to maintain that agility. We needed to see if the potential candidate didn't mind working in our environment.”

“Intellectually, the goal with Ellis was to see if we could train him to become a software programmer as he didn't have any prior experience, having just graduated with a physics degree. Therefore, it was always going to be a steep learning curve and the placement provided a low risk method for both inPractice.org and Ellis to see if it was possible. He was awesome so we hired him straight away; it's definitely possible!”

“I think both inPractice.org and Ellis gained a lot from the placement in terms of growth. InPractice.org has definitely benefited from the GO Wales scheme as it provides the support to find and mentor new staff members like Ellis.”

Ellis is delighted to have been part of developing a new product and being offered a full time position at the company.

“I was lucky enough to be offered a full-time job as a software programmer with InPractice.org I am currently intimately involved with the development of a program called Woosabi , which is a tool to help businesses manage their customers and finances. I feel very excited and proud to be a part of something this big.”

“I acquired a lot of skills during the placement which are put to use on a daily basis and are continually being improved upon; I am becoming more and more familiar with programming languages like PHP and Javascript.”

“I would definitely recommend the GO Wales scheme to students and graduates. I think that it is a great way of getting a "taster" of a job that you may be interested in. I don't regret it for a second!”
