CVs & Personal Statements

Here you will find practical advice to help you create a tailored application for a GO Wales Work Placement or Work Taster along with some examples.

What is a CV?

A CV is a summary of your skills, achievements and experience. It is used by employers to make a judgement on whether you would be worth interviewing. A good CV is essential when applying for jobs and placements.

To start with, it must be:

  • Concise – no more than 2 pages of A4
  • Tailored – a CV tailored to a particular vacancy is proven to work better than using a general CV.
  • Of good quality – this means it must be typed, free of spelling mistakes and typing errors, and written from a positive viewpoint.

What is a Covering Letter?

This is a statement that is provided alongside your CV in support of your application. Many employers ask for this and you will need to upload one each time you make an application for a GO Wales work placement. A good covering letter should introduce you and bring out your key strengths in relation to the particular placement you are applying for. The key point here is to tailor your statement to the placement in question.
